English lessons rock! I like english. Though, I am very bad at grammar. hehe. I ought to publish a "Dictionary of Wrong Grammaring". Anyway, we dealt about different kinds of expository paragraphs these past few days. We're already done on Enumeration of Details and Illustration. Yesterday was about Classification. And so far, it is the best! Adjacent to our room is an empty, totally worthless classroom. So Ma'am Laplana decided to shift the class there as our own room is soooooooooooo humid that it makes everything to be done impossible except sleeping. Anyway, Ma'am asked us to write our own classifications and here is what I ended up with.
SHOPPERS [on how they shop]
+ ONE DAY MILLIONAIRES - they spend all their money spending on usually useless rubbish (ie cosmetics, clothes that won't fit even the tiniest dwarf, and other "kikay" things, sneakers, caps that bore ugly brand names and such stuff)
+ WINDOW SHOPPERS - If you can buy things by merely staring at them, these fellas could buy the whole mall.
+ WEAR-SHOP CUSTOMERS - They roam around the clothes and "burloloy" section testing all kinds of bracelets, skirts, skimpy tops and caps. They spend years changing dresses in the fitting room but not buying anything at all.
+ SHOP LIFTERS - They are very common. They shop but they don't pay.
CLASSMATES [level of excellence]
+ STUDY-HOLICS - They think they're gonna die if they miss out the BONUS question even if they got the answers on all items. Their worst nightmare is falling asleep during chemistry period and getting a score of 9 out of 10 in a terribly brain-draining quiz.
+ THE LANDMINES - They would go almost to the level of transparency during class hours but their names show up in neon lights during PE class.
+ ALIENS - They look as though they are lost in earth during class. They exist on their own worlds. They may look completely mediocre among others. Keeping their grades on monotone and never bothering to excel. You might see them sleeping in class, talking along with the teacher, drawing, scribbling secret notes on their notebooks, or simply staring at the vast nothingness in front of them. But amidst all these, they don't flunk any subjects at all. Natural born geniuses that has reached the level of madness.
+ OPINIONATED - They excel in class discussions and debates. They point out their reasons and beliefs as if there is no tomorrow. They perfect the essay and explanation part of the exam but usually sinks when it comes to enumeration and objectives.
PARENTS [how they treat their children]
+ KABERKS - They are what most teenager asks for. Cool and funky parents. They can groove to the latest hits of the Black-Eyed Peas, watch anime shows, and even treat their kids' barkada to a round of beer.
+ NEVER YOUNG - It seems as if they suddenly sprouted out of the ground in their mid-50s. They are the worst villain in most teen's life. Parents who are unusually-super-mega-ultra-totally-terribly-over-protective, conservative and strict. As if they've never been kids.
+ SUPERHEROES - They have the largest population nowadays. Parents who work, work, work, and work some more. You barely see them around the house. They wake up earlier than most roosters and go home later than most bats. Sometimes you even wonder if they really do exist. But just like any superhero, they fly out of nowhere to help whenever things get out of control.
NEIGHBORS [the way the live]
+ SECOND FAMILY - They are those everyone loves to meet. They are those whose smiles are always at hand whenever you happen to pass by them. Hospitable and caring. Your moms are "mag-amiga". Their kids has been your playmates ever since you learned to walk and talk. You can even be mistaken as one big happy family. Because of your closeness with each other, you might as well tore down those walls and build an extension between your houses.
+ THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIALS - You sometimes wonder whether they are really aliens who just transformed into their human forms. Their doors are always locked, the house is always quiet, and you barely see them around. The only proof you believe they exist is the dim lights issuing from the cracks of their always-shut-tight windows every night.
+ TALK SHOW HOSTS - They are very common in the Philippines (especially in the squatter areas). They could easily surpass the legacy brought by Oprah Winfrey, Art Bell, Kris Aquino, and the like. You wake up in the morning to hear them talking about what-who-did and who-dated-who. Their powerful vocal chords reaches up to a hundred decibels as they gossip about the latest rumor in town. You can even make a biography of other people's life by just listening to them. And when electricity goes out, you don't have to problem about radio and television, as their voices looms over the whole neighborhood complaining about the power failure, politics, economy, and of course, other people's lives.
So.. Where, if any chance, do you belong?
