Kwentong UPCAT

My older sister recounted of an occasion where a farmer all the way from Samar traveled to Tacloban with his son on the day of the UPCAT thinking it was a walk-in exam.
Behind the novelty of the experience and the quaint stories everyone is sharing about good snacks and unreliable IQ booster tips, these are the kinds of UPCAT stories that must be projected and discussed.
Access to the University is becoming more difficult for the poor especially that our presence is lacking in the countrysides.
UP, para tayo kanino? (from a post by Joshua Musico Sagdullas)

2004. I learned about the UPCAT application days before the submission deadline. I learned it from our high school valedictorian Angelle when she asked me whether I've finalised my documents for the application.

I didn't know. I wasn't informed.

#MyCheveningJourney

I feel a warm bubble of joy swell up inside me everytime I read my batch mates' posts of their Chevening journey.

It's always a different tale for everyone. For some, it required moving mountains and shaking seas. Interestingly for me, it's a combination of "right timing brought by unfavorable conditions" and the challenge of getting a post-grad degree before my 20s ends.

Today, less than twenty four hours before I embark on this new adventure, I wish to look back and thank the people who made this possible.

10 Things I Hate About Grad School

1. Readings. Tons and tons of readings.
2. Professors who expect you to read those tons and tons of readings. In less than a week.
3. Large classes. As in, classes with more than eight students in it.
4. Citations.
5. The herculean task of commuting from work to school during rush hour.
6. Skipping dinner for a weekday class.
7. Term papers.
8. Comprehensive exams and thesis.
9. That 70-30 chance of having your graduation delayed.
10. The unspoken agreement that you need to suffer before you get that diploma.

AWWWW... MAMIMISS KO ANG MGA IS-RELATED JOKES NATIN GUYS! MAMIMISS KO KAYO. I FEEL BLESSED FOR HAVING YOU. SALAMAT SA CONCERN AT SA LAHAT-LAHAT! KITAKITS IN THE FUTURE.  :)

AH TAMA.

I LOVE YOU. =)

From Cum Laude to CPA (at sige na nga, Miss Universe na rin) HAHAHA!

Jennifer Joyce Deromol Namis, CPA

Last day of being a student - OFFICIALLY.

Well, not really.

But today (hopefully), would be the last day of wearing uniforms in my entire life.

15 years of my life wasted on education!
HAHAHA. I kid.

Seriously, am I glad that my life as a student is over!

I'm gonna miss everything.
The teachers. the students. The long lists of homework I never did at home. The exams. The quizzes. The deadly paperworks!
The midnight oil is still untouched. Hohoho.

So long sweet (and tormenting) semesters.
Goodbye armchairs and chalkboards.

Goodbye studies!
Hello, UNEMPLOYMENT! =))

How to NOT Humiliate Yourself In Front of Your Crush

Things you shouldn't do when your crush says "Hi" to you:

1. DO NOT pretend that you did not see him.

2. DO NOT close the door.

3. DO NOT turn off the lights.

4. DO NOT hide.

5. DO NOT TEXT HIM AFTERWARDS TO SAY HI.

Hmf. Ulo lang ng merlion.

Sabi ko na ba... :[

Honestly, kahilakon jud ko guys. Aw. Sorry. Atik lang. Sad lang diay. Super sad. It's not the Singapore experience man. It's the ABIS-ASST experience.

Litsi. Putik, mud, lapok!

Wish List

There are three material things that I would want to receive this holiday season... =))

* Eyeglass Frame.
Preferrably thin-rimmed and of neutral color (beige, white, black)

* Ateneo de DAVAO Jacket.
If there isn't any available, a plain Ateneo jacket would be nice.

* Ateneo Lanyard.
Even if I still don't have a phone. =))

So basically, that would be it.

Though if given one chance to have my ultimate wish granted,
I WANT TO BE 4-INCHES TALLER.

Oops... I did it again

It will always be one of my biggest blunders during college. It took me three years to get over it. And now, when everything is going okay, it re-entered my life like a lovelorn fungi to a dirty toenail.

*deep breath*

Guys, say hello to my BANGS...

... AGAIN! =))

Oh well. Dakilang ipis, may you rest in peace.

Kanina ko pa hinihintay mag-alas tres. Nang makapag-sol na ako. Ayoko namang magsol ngayon.

Tsk, tsk.

Nagpseudo-get together ang asylum kanina.

Bakit Masaya Ang Fiesta Ngayong Taon

* SSE Level-up. Iregards ko sa bongga na props (yey! galing ng ssesec!), sa mga maiingay (at makukulit na second year), sa mga drum (meron na rin kami niyan!), sa mga awards na napanalunan (hindi lang pang-utakan, pang-sports pa. haha!), at sa pagiging UNITED (for the first time) ng iba't ibang programs. *throws confetti*

* Henna Tattoo. Oh yeah! Dahil nagdinamak ako at ginawa kong malaking canvass ang aking balat at dahil MAY PORSYENTO KAMI SA KITA NG AMING PAGHE-HENNA. Cheers!

* Music Booth. Dahil nagkakwenta lang ito sa akin sa last day. Kasi last year ko na rin ito kaya todohin na. hehe.

* Mga people (?) sa ATENEWS. Haha! Dito, masayang tumambay (at maglinis). Dito suportado ang bisyo. May libreng lysol, baygon, at glue. Andito sina Master Po, MARYAMercedes, Br***y, at Betty Boop. Kaya yaya, you take off my itchy clothes na.

* Mga camerang Canon na naglipana. Walang ganyan sa bukid namin. Kaya salamat sa mga nagpahiram. Kina Kuya Hao, Kuya Sonny, Paouwee, at Ryan, tsalamat sa pagpapaextra sakin. hehehe

* Kasi dumating si Ubal. Yey!

Humanda next year! BWAHAHAHA! Nakakatuwa. Nakakatouch. Nakakaiyak. Or siguro, adik lang talaga ako. Haha!]

* SodlzKujpCeceu. HAHA. =))

I'm sorry but we cannot accept your proposal...

It was the ADC victory party last night so I slept at Ma'am Maya's. I woke up at around 7 and is running late for our thesis (proposal) defense. After a quick breakfast and words of advice from ma'am, I scooted off to meet Jeng, Ninay, and Tin-tin. I feel bad for making them worry. We even had last minute arguments last Thursday. Tsk, arguments. That is the last thing I would ever want to happen between us. And now, I know I'm toeing off the line once again for being late.

We have Sir Pancho, Ma'am Tetchie, and Sir Abejaron for our panel. I'm so nervous, my heart is beating against my esophagus. I prayed our prayer and started talking. The report went on pseudo-smoothly. Migawd. I can't remember saying as many "granting that..." than before. Then the interrogation came. For the past ten minutes, the panelists were asking us questions; but after Sir Pancho questioned the feasibility of our proposal (vis-a-vis good relationship between researcher and respondent), we became mere observers. They (the panelists and Sir Nappy) discussed about changing our topic. They gave us tips regarding the new topic and they never asked us any questions again.

After 2 hours, they sent us out of the room so that they can decide about our proposal. We were all nervous and were talking about the possibility of our proposal getting rejected.

Jeng: Hindi effective ang topic.
Ninay: Pero tingin nyo makaulit tayo?
Tin2x: ewan. kung maka-ulit, eh di mag-ulit.
Me: pero okay lang man lahat sa paper natin diba? Wala man silang mareklamo dun. Yung topic lang talaga.
Jeng: masyado kasing sensitive topic natin.
Ninay: oo nga.
Me: pang-PhD?
NInay: uu.
Tin2x: Kapoy balik.
Jeng: okay lang yan guys. kaya natin to.
Me: hehehehehe.. *nervous laugh*

After conditioning ourselves that making another paper and having a re-defense is okay, Sir Nappy asked us to come back in. To which, Sir Abejaron gave us their final judgment. It went something like this:

Ma'am Tetch: Go, sabihin mo na. Wag mo na sila pahirapan.
Sir Abej: I can't look at them in the eye.
Me: *to myself* atik lang na si sir... *heart beats faster*
Janine: *nervous laugh* hehe..
Tin-tin: Kaya natin to.
Sir Abej: well, I'm sorry to say that, WE CANNOT ACCEPT YOUR PROPOSAL...
Jeng: *sad smile*
Sir Abej: WITHOUT REVISIONS.
Jeng, Ninay, Tin: whew! *lipay ang mga bata* hehehe..
Me: *to myself again* haay.. ingon na ba. adik man ni sila sir ui. hehehe... *lipay japon*
Sir Abej: You just have to change the topic.

So there. Thank you God. I am (super-duper) happy. If only I had enough money today, I'll treat my groupmates in Pizza Hut. Whew!

Sa mga magde-defense pa, GOOD LUCK and GOD BLESS. :)

Pre-Diplomat Status (Buhay International Studies)

Picobello. Kwentong Multo. Kwentong Kapatid. Kwentong Katatawanan. Gunggung na waiter. Buy one, take one pizza. Sampung estudyanteng babae. Pawang mga kumukuha ng International Studies. Ano ang kahihinatnan? Tama. KALOKOHAN.

Nagpalitratong muli. Sumakay ng Jeep. Umuwi.

Bumaba sa kanto. Naglakad. Nakita ang buwan. Nanaginip ng gising. Nangarap ng realidad. Nagpalipad ng papel na tagak sa kaisipan. Ngumuya ang kaluluwa ng strawberry. Natisod. Nagising.

May bukas pa.

Invisible for a Month

I am forever resurrected. Like a cork bobbing in and out of the water.

Nevertheless, let me recap what had happened over my looooooooooooooooooong absence. Mygedness. It's been A MONTH! FOUR WEEKS! Tsk. Ok, roll VTR.

1st Week (January 29-Feb 3)
~ We condemn Globe! UNLIMITED texting as a commodity. Tsk. I was basically unaffected at first. I registered for 5days unli last Jan31. The next day, the unli rate skyrocketed. Textscams boycotting Globe flew everywhere. I can visualize the Smart and Sun Cellular manufacturers performing a ritual Thanksgiving dance.
~ My wallet (the one brought by Paouwee from Dubai) developed a mind of his own. He went berserk and ran away from me TWICE this week.
~ Oh right. I'm so glad to be alive.

2nd Week (February 4-10)
~ Yeah! I am now officially part of the WEBTEAM! Hahahaha!
~ Pizza Hut on An's birthday. I'm loving my classmates. ABIS-ASST 2 rocks. ^^
~ Midterm exams. Grr.
~ And yeah, I have a new guitar! Her name is WENDY. *giggles* I love her. Jane picked her. I also brought a pick. His name is Twenty. Hahaha!

Ain't she a beaut?

~ I am finally divorced with my wallet. After two failed attempts to get lost, my stupid purse finally got rid of me last Friday. Huhuhuhu.. My TIMEZONE CARD! It has 40php in it! Mygawd! And yea, my damn ATM card was also inside.
~ Anito and Kokoi are officialy on. I'll post their picture next time. Hahaha! A love bound by animê.

3rd Week (Feb 11-17)
~ paperworks, pAperWorKs, PAPERWORKS! (This is one of the MAIN REASONS of my disappearance)
~ It was my freakin' dorky best friendslashcousin's birthday on Feb 11! Ubal! You have definitely left the world of minors!

Happy Birthday Ubs!
*throws confetti*

~ Tina! Happy Birthday! (This is soooooooooo late..) Forgive me. T.T

Another milestone stands... :)

~ Yea, Valentine's day. Weee! A day invented by Hallmark and Blue Mountain Arts for profit. I had a date with Karla and ended the day at Kasagingan with Kim, Meeko, Meanne, Meanne's friend (I forgot her name! Sorry!), Jay (half-German, half-Shepherd. Haha! Kidding!), and Jen. Happy Singles Awareness Day! That's fun, the acronym for SAD? Haha! No way.
~ Uh-huh! Congratulations to Pansit for bagging the Awitenista 2007!

And finally, this week. (Feb 18-21)
~ I am quitting Pink Cloud Inn to start my Madam Auring-like career. Hahahaha! I am soooooooo such a matchmaker. Hihihihi..
~ There is a political turmoil happening in Ateneo right now. And to think that this is politics IN SCHOOL.
~ What? Montano and Pacquiao for the Filipino Nation!? O.o Yeah. And the teletubbies were wearing t-backs for winter.
~ Karla is officially breaking up with LiveJournal. Bwahahahaha! Come on Blogspotters (if there is ever such a word), let's give her a BOILING welcome! Hahaha! Visit her site and read her random ramblings. http://implicitinfluence.blogspot.com/

Well, I think that summarizes what had happened. My insights about our recollection will be posted next. :)

I hope it won't took another month or so.

PROCRASTINATION does breed INVISIBILITY.

Risorgimento and Laziness

Whew! I missed blogging. So much. And I miss you all people. ^^

Yeah tin, kinacareer ko na resolution ko. Hahaha!

OMG. I feel like fainting. Song currently playing: I've Been Waiting For You by Guys Next Door. Oh 90's music. The Boy Band explosion. This song reminds me of my last crush. Haha! Avy, I'm so over him na, pramis. Naalala ko lang siya sa kantang to. Hehe.

Anyway, I'm supposed to write my reaction paper regarding the past IS week forums for Bugan's class. But as usual, my laziness got me again. I feel like slacking. I do believe I'm Juan Tamad's reincarnate.

This week has been great. My relationship with my classmates is improving. I made a caricature of our class. The first step to a wondrous friendship. Chloe and me are getting supah-close. Judging by the way we call each other "adik!". Harvey can be a pain sometimes, but I'm learning to tolerate him. Janine is not tantamount to a Kindergarten-jester anymore. Jeng is super nice. And I worship An! I'm loving Millie and Kim more and more. Their Lit report about the short story "A Sudden Shower" by Hwang Sun-Won was absolutely wonderful. Millie DOES love Korea! I remembered a certain scene in My Sassy Girl where a movie much like the story of "A Sudden Shower" was uttered by The Girl. Justin commented on the story and said that it was like the novel "A Walk to Remember". Whoa. If I'm not mistaken, the movie Sassy Girl was shown on 2001. Therefore, the "Shower" story is older than the A Walk To Remember itself which grew famous sometime in 2002. I looked up for it a while ago, and boy am I right! The story "A Sudden Shower" was actually the renowned literary piece Sonagi which made its way to the world on 1959! And that's like half a century ago! Originally called Rain Shower, it is cited as a timeless Korean Classic by the Koreans. Take that Justin! I was about to blurt "GO MILLIE Go!". But I got lazy. Hehe.

Yesterday, a miracle happened. The WHOLE gang (ASYLUM) ate lunch together. We never had a time to eat lunch together because of our stupid schedules. Eseng was pestering us about a Studio Pic. I do want a studio pic. I know the others want it too. But we are so busy. Or maybe, because we are just lazy.

Ok. Ed and me are officially best friends (according to him, that is). That frog! Some people are raising their eyebrows about our 'friendship'. Like duh. What do they want? Whenever I get superclose with Karla (and even with the Asylum people), they call me a Lesbian. And now, they're questioning my friendship with Edong!? Yeah, whatever. Controversies swarm me. And I'm not even on TV yet!

Speaking of TVs and cameras - (yes, I'm having a loooooooooooooong post here. Forgive me. I'm blog-deprived) I would now spill the word about my latest blooper. I am actually camera-shy. Yeah, you heard it right so shut up and stop gagging --- Okay. This afternoon, it seemed like a superdooper evil spirit took hold of my body that I haven't realized what I was doing until it's too late. I went to Kalasag, passed an application form, and actually HAD AN INTERVIEW for the AWITENISTA HOST! Oh My God! What have I done!? OMG. Why do I have to suffer for jumping into the bandwagon!? I mean the ADC Gang (Intsik included) went for it too. I threw away my dignity this afternoon! I looked like a complete buffoon. I registered perfectly in the camera just like the way a trampled mudpie does. Arrghh! After the traumatic interview, two thoughts crossed my mind.

1. I'll go to the school cafeteria, ask for a knife and slit my throat.
2. Crawl all the way to the 7th floor and jump in the middle of Roxas Avenue.

I am now proclaiming a personal war against videocameras!

Karla was telling me that it was worth the experience. I am on the verge of losing my sanity. It's a good thing Karla suggested eating two slices of thick pudgy chocolate cake in City Tri. Amidst the turmoil deep in our hearts, we managed to watch the movie Dejavu for my English Paper. It's a great movie. It made us think. I just hope I won't be experiencing any dejavu about my stupid camera experience.

I want to reflect about this week's highlights: my meta-dramatic Thursday night talk with Jane, I-love-my-friends-so-much idea, gender-insensitivity, THE interview, my failure to pass a Webteam Article, and my long list of paperworks.

But as usual, I got lazy. :)
